UNTOLD JOURNEYS

Everyone has a story to tell … but most go unheard. This is from 16 year old Malaika Gilani , a Pakistani born native, who now resides in Melbourne, Australia.
The one thing I can tell you is that Malaika’s stories will never go unheard because she is incredibly driven and motivated to get them out to the world.
In fact, when this young lady reached out to me and asked me if I would consider having her on my radio show, she didn’t give up after the first email. I love that she is passionate about what she feels and is willing to stop at nothing to create her dreams. Today, she will will be getting up at 3am to be on the show, so that shows you how determined this Grade `12 student is.
Malaika believes each of us has an untold story, we live with, a hidden part ourselves we rarely show to others due to embarrassment, shame, fear, etc. Everyone goes through something and maybe the struggle wouldn’t be so bad if we knew we weren’t alone. To this end, Malaika wanted to highlight the many untold stories she felt might inspire others on their own journeys through life, so she began writing poetry as a means of expressing her feelings.
When this 16-year-old teen was assigned a peer counseling role four years ago, she at first felt burdened … not by the struggles her classmates were facing, but by the sheer fact she couldn’t help. Now she says, “ I want people reading the poems to know that someone else is going through exactly what you are … you’re not alone.”.

LIONS, TIGERS & BEARS

Bobbi Brink is a woman to admire. This animal activist is the Founder, Director and Vice President of Lions Tigers & Bears, a Sanctuary that is now a safe refuge and home to a variety of rescued exotic animals, mostly Big CATS and Bears as the name implies, but also included amongs the lions, tigers, black bears, bobcats, a mountain lion, leopard, Himalayan black bears, grizzly bears are llamas, horses, goats, sheep, chickens, a miniature horse, miniature donkey, peacocks, and a macaw! They all live on the 90 acre retreat just outside of Alpine, California on the edge of the Cleveland National Forest in San Diego County.
Bobbi has been working with and advocating for captive big cats, bears and other exotic animals since the early 1990s after witnessing the abuses and neglect inflicted on captive exotics victimized by the exotic animal trade. Bobbi made a decision that something must be done, and since then she has made it her personal mission to work to end the abuses that stem from this heinous industry, one animal at a time. Bobbi plays an active role in managing all aspects of Lions Tigers & Bears’ daily operations, from daily fueedings to office management. She is a prolific fundraiser and tireless advocate for abused and displaced wildlife. Bobbi has worked across the country to coordinate the rescue and relocation of hundreds of big cats, bears and exotic animals – providing them an opportunity to live out their lives at reputable sanctuaries, including Lions Tigers & Bears. Bobbi has testified before Congress, helped instill legislation that would regulate the trade of these animals.
